Originally built in the mid-16th Century by Sir Ralph Warren (twice Lord Mayor of London), Netteswell House in London’s Bethnal Green has undergone many changes, the most striking of which was the shaped and pedimented Flemish-style gables from the mid-17th Century.

The house was given its present name by Reverend Anthony Natt, Rector of the parish of Netteswell (now within Harlow) in Essex. He built Nos. 17-21 Old Ford Road in 1753 and later resided at No. 19.

Ownership of Netteswell House eventually passed to the Bethnal Green Museum (now the Young V&A), which used the property as the curator’s residence and later as classrooms, before falling into disrepair. It was acquired by the current owner from the museum in 1995.
